Strategic Outlook

For our planets future, it is essential that we increase our understanding of combustion processes to achieve substantial improvements in fuel-use efficiency while maintaining or improving environmental quality, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and facilitating the continued transition to low environmental impact fuels.

As we move forward, the Combustion TCP research is essential to these outcomes.  Progress in this field will have a major impact on improving the efficient use of fuels of any type (fossil or renewable), as well as greatly mitigating environmental impacts from their use.

This Combustion TCP focuses on the understanding of combustion phenomena related to inefficiencies and emissions formation in energy conversion processes. The Combustion TCP generates knowledge that is immediately useful and applicable to current technologies, as well as provides a solid foundation upon which innovative, revolutionary, or advanced concepts can evolve. The work within the Combustion TCP is currently divided into seven task areas (Annexes), described within this website.
